Looking forward to Mondays

November 10, 2025

There are a lot of things that change in your life when you start a startup.

If you're really serious about it, the core thing that changes is that you have a lot less time on your hands for anything that isn't your business.

And actually it's not even just about time, but mental bandwidth. I might be physically present with my girlfriend, but my mind is often wandering somewhere else (and I'll get promptly notified of it).

My apartment is one thing that's gotten very little attention during this early period at Skald, meaning in the picture below it looked like what you see on the left the day I moved in, and it looks like what you see on the right today, over a month later.

I was renting a furnished place and moved to a non-furnished one just a couple weeks after quitting my job to work full-time on Skald, and it's been hard to find time to furnish it.

(P.S. can we get Ikea in Brazil please?)

But as I woke up today, I realized there's been an interesting positive side effect to all this: I very much look forward to Mondays.

Most people look forward to the weekend (when they get to rest) and dread Mondays (when they get back to work) but I've caught myself looking forward to Mondays sometimes even more than the weekend.

I work weekends, so it's not a rest vs. work thing.

What it actually is is that during the weekend:

  • Everyone in my life is off work
  • That includes most of our users

So during the weekend I often have a lot more demands to take part in events, some of which are really important, and many that I truly want to take part in. And conversely, users are mosly offline because they're not working either.

That means it's a struggle to balance how to spend my time, and also signups are down, potential clients will "get back to it next week", etc.

So come Monday, the personal life noise shuts off, the users buzz is back on, and it's time to fucking ship.

And oh, that's a nice feeling.
